REPORT: Man charged with domestic violence after Sunday incident

Jamie Nathaniel Smith

A Rockmart man who refused to cooperate with police was not found until another day, Tuesday, because of arrest warrants following an alleged domestic dispute that occurred Sunday, according to Polk County police reports.

Polk County Sheriff's officials arrested Jamie Nathaniel Smith, 38, of Rockmart, after he refused to open the door to police on Sunday when they tried to speak to him about the allegations.

Warrants were later issued for his arrest after he was accused of domestic violence. When the victim tried to report the incident, she dropped her phone in the water and was unable to call 911. Smith is also accused of forcing the victim to remain in the home by using door locks that required a key and hiding the key in a location where the victim could not find it.

Police learned of this when they were stopped by the victim in a car during another incident after he eventually managed to escape the situation.

Polk County police tried to speak to Smith about the incident, but he was uncooperative and slammed the door in officers' faces when they spoke to him at his home.

Officers later obtained arrest warrants for assault, false imprisonment, obstructing law enforcement officers, and obstructing or hindering persons in making an emergency call.

Smith was still being held in the Polk County Jail at the time of this publication, facing felony and misdemeanor charges. His bail was set at $9,000.
