One dead and several injured after two-vehicle crash in James City County

On Tuesday evening, James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to a fatal crash at the intersection of Old Stage Road and Fieldstone Parkway.

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Virginia – A woman was killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Stage Road and Fieldstone Parkway.

According to a press release from the James City County Police Department, Melissa Delano, 44, of Suffolk, was driving her black Honda Odyssey south on Fieldstone Parkway when she was struck by a white Ford F-250 pickup truck traveling west on Old Stage Road.

The police preliminary investigation revealed that Delano was attempting to turn left onto Old Stage Road eastbound when the two vehicles collided.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene at around 8:21 p.m., they found the heavily damaged Honda and Ford pickup truck on the median of the intersection.

Delano was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene by James City County paramedics, despite performing CPR and other life-saving measures.

The passenger in Delano's Honda was taken to VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

However, the driver of the Ford was treated and released at the scene, while a passenger in the truck was also taken to the nearby hospital, Riverside Regional Medical Center, with non-life-threatening injuries.

One westbound lane of Old Stage Road was closed for an hour, while the eastbound lanes remained closed for about four hours while emergency crews searched the scene.

The accident is still under investigation, but authorities believe that alcohol abuse and speeding were not factors in the accident.
