Broward woman allegedly held her baby in her arms during violent act of vandalism

DEERFIELD BEACH, Florida. — A woman endangered her 2-month-old daughter by holding her in her arms during a shooting spree in Deerfield Beach on Tuesday, leading to her arrest on child abuse and neglect charges, officials said.

Hany Matozes More, 37, of Pompano Beach, is also charged with criminal damage and resisting arrest.

Officers said she went to the victim's home shortly after 11:30 p.m. and began hitting the victim's door with a blunt object, “possibly her high heels.”

Matozes More was “thrashing violently” while holding her baby under her armpits, an arrest report said. Officers said the baby's head jerked back and forth “quickly, which could have caused significant damage.”

She also “held her baby in a chokehold, causing the baby's entire body weight to pull her head and neck down,” authorities said.

With the baby still in tow, officials said Matozes More broke the side mirror of the victim's motorcycle and damaged the hood of his Tesla with a blunt object.

She is also accused of damaging an outdoor light and tearing his surveillance cameras off the wall of his house.

“The defendant was holding her baby in her arms the entire time,” wrote Deputy Steven Lees of the Broward Sheriff's Office in his police report.

To prevent Matozes More from destroying any more property, the man's roommate sprayed her – and the baby – with a water hose, authorities said.

“When officers arrived on the scene, the defendant was still holding her baby indiscriminately and nearly dropped her several times,” Lees wrote. “The baby was crying hysterically and appeared frightened.”

Lees wrote that Matozes More refused to let go of the baby because she tensed up while officers tried to handcuff her.

“The defendant's actions not only hindered my investigation… she also put her baby in danger,” he wrote.

The baby did not suffer any serious physical injuries, authorities said. The report does not indicate whether and how Matozes More knew the victim or into whose care the baby was placed after his arrest.

According to online records, Matozes More has been held at BSO's main jail since Wednesday on $8,000 bail.
