Former Lakewood High School employee arrested for sexually abusing student

LAKEWOOD, Colorado (KKTV) – Lakewood Police said they received a report on Aug. 13 of a woman who was sexually assaulted by a security guard on the Lakewood High School campus while she was a high school student.

The woman stated that she had been repeatedly subjected to sexual assault about ten years ago, between 2014 and 2016, during her senior and junior school years, police said.

According to police, the sexual encounters on and off school grounds were carried out by campus security officer Rubel “Tim” Martinez.

On August 16, police announced that they had probable cause to arrest Martinez on suspicion of sexually abusing a child in a position of trust. He was remanded to the Jefferson County Jail on $20,000 bail.

On Tuesday, the First Public Prosecutor's Office filed charges of sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust, which had already repeatedly led to cases of abuse.

According to police, Martinez worked as a campus security officer at Jefferson High School and Lakewood High School from 2006 to 2022.

“He also ran an after-school clown club at Lakewood High School,” police said. “Further investigation also revealed that Martinez works as a pastor at Breakthrough Ministries in Dacono.”

Police believe there are individuals who may have more information on this case. They are asking anyone with information that may help the case to contact Detective Boyd with the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7229.
