Shooting at Benihana parking lot in Dearborn leaves two injured

DEARBORN, Mich. – Two people are hospitalized after a non-fatal shooting in the parking lot of Benihana at Fairlane Town Center.

The shooting occurred Wednesday (August 21) in the 18601 block of Hubbard Drive.

Officers said when they arrived, they discovered the two victims of what appeared to be a targeted attack; robbery was probably not the motive.

“The investigation is ongoing, so I wanted to show the public that there is no threat to the public at this time,” said Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin. “I will also ask them (residents) to stay away from the area while we continue our investigation.”

Officials said both victims were shot in the legs and multiple shots were fired. It also appeared that the victims took turns firing, as one vehicle had bullet holes in it.

The victims were taken to Corwell Health, where their condition is stable.

“Nationally, there are more guns in this country than people, and unfortunately we have seen a lot of violence across the country.

“So I pray for the people out there, and I pray for the officials across the country who are trying to deal with this, but it's clear that we have to find a better way to deal with the conflicts.

“You have a busy restaurant where families celebrate birthdays, graduations and the like, and this kind of violence is happening outside in the parking lot. It's totally unacceptable.”
