Florida high school mother arrested for allegedly participating in video of daughter's fight at bus stop

An argument between two high school students at a bus stop in Florida took an unexpected turn when the mother of one of the students reportedly intervened.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, officers were called to a bus stop in Daytona North, Florida, on August 15 after friendship problems over the summer months began to impact the school year.

At the bus stop, two young girls jumped out of the bus and agreed to fight each other, officials said.

The fight, captured on video and shared by the sheriff's office, shows the moment the argument took an unexpected turn when one of the mothers intervened.

In the video, 34-year-old Kathryn Stephanopoulos intervenes in the fight and even puts a child in a headlock.

“Yo, not the mom!” a student can be heard saying in the video.

During the scuffle, police said, Stephanopoulos' daughter started a second argument with another child who tried to break up the fight.

After the argument was over, the teenager began to argue with Stephanopoulos and then hit her with a metal cup, hitting the woman in the face.

“Did she just hit her with a Stanley Cup?” asked a student in the cellphone video.

“Instead of de-escalating the situation, a mother intervenes in the argument and sets a bad example for her child and the others at the bus stop,” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. “Her behavior certainly won't win her Mother of the Year.”

“Parents need to lead by example and not be part of the problem,” he said. “Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt, but now a mother faces serious charges for losing control of her temper.”
