Motorcycle club building at the center of the mass shooting catches fire

A motorcycle club building near the site of a mass shooting was ablaze on Wednesday evening.

It is unclear how the building (1301 N. Spring St.) caught fire. The Baltimore Fire Department did not respond to requests for comment late Wednesday night.

One person was killed and seven others were injured in the Sunday night shooting near the building. Police are investigating whether the group was involved in the shooting after residents complained about noise earlier in the evening. It is unclear what led to the Sunday night shooting or how the group may have been involved.

Baltimore Police Chief Richard Worley said police recovered several weapons at the scene Sunday night, indicating that multiple people fired weapons.

In 2019, a “TB Aberdeen Motorcycle Club Inc.” was registered to the Spring Street building, according to public records. The business was abandoned in October 2023 after a 2022 property tax return was not filed.

Speaking to the press earlier this week, City Councillor Robert Stokes said there had been tensions between the neighbourhood and the biker group for years.

“The municipality called about this particular location because they were leaving the building at night. It might be two or three in the morning and they're revving the motorcycles and making all this noise,” Stokes said.

Baltimore Police spokeswoman Lindsey Eldridge told The Banner on Tuesday that officers responded to a call reporting a motorcycle group blocking the road and making noise Sunday night. An officer did not observe any road obstructions or loud music in the area, Eldridge said, and was unable to locate the person who made the complaint.

Eldridge said the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
