Attorney General Bain publishes report on first anniversary of his term

District Attorney Andrew Bain released an annual report highlighting his office's work over the past year since he took office. He is chief prosecutor for Florida's Ninth Judicial Circuit, representing Orange County and Osceola County.

The Attorney General's report reflected the office's recent successes, current initiatives and future goals to protect the public from harm and engage them in crime prevention and intervention efforts.

Highlights from Attorney General Andrew Bain’s report on Central Florida include:

• Last year, 31 murder cases were brought to trial, with a conviction rate of 93%. In 18 cases, life sentences were imposed.

• Twenty cases of sexual crimes were brought to court, with a conviction rate of 80%. Eight cases resulted in life imprisonment.

• The Violent Crimes Unit was created with five assistant district attorneys focused exclusively on prosecuting violent, gang and firearm crimes. The unit has taken seven cases to trial and achieved an 85% conviction rate.

• Re-staffed the office with experienced prosecutors and filled 99% of our 163 full-time prosecutor positions.

• Increase the starting salary for prosecutors from $63,000 to $68,000 to attract qualified candidates.

• Collaborate with local partners on prevention programs to prevent and deter crime.

• Improve working relations with law enforcement agencies.

District Attorney Andrew Bain was appointed to the position by Governor Ron DeSantis in August 2023. Bain said his office is committed to creating a safer community by holding violent offenders accountable and fairly prosecuting crimes. In his current role, District Attorney Bain said he aims to restore public safety, strengthen community relations, support the welfare of victims, and proactively work with local organizations to deter and prevent crime.
