Man allegedly shot two fishermen at Lake of the Ozarks

SUNRISE BEACH, Missouri (KY3) – A Sunrise Beach man is in Camden County Jail for allegedly shooting two fishermen Tuesday night.

One of the fishermen called 911 shortly after 9 a.m. to report that someone had threatened to shoot them if they approached his dock in a cove. According to the probable cause statement, the fisherman said the threats continued while he was on the phone with 911.

A few minutes after the fishermen had hidden behind the walls of the boat, a shot was fired.

Levi Coats told officers he used his gun to try to “scare away” the raccoons so they wouldn't enter his tent. Coats claimed he didn't see any boats in the bay.

Officers found a .22 caliber rifle next to Coats and he admitted to drinking.

The Camden County District Attorney's Office charged Coats with two counts of first-degree assault, attempted assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

Coats is being held on $100,000 bail. His first court date has not yet been set.
