Megan Thee Stallion to host the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards – Essence

In an exciting announcement, Grammy-winning superstar Megan Thee Stallion will host the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. This marks a significant milestone in Megan's career as she becomes only the second person to rise from performing artist to host the main event.

This year was a record-breaking year for Megan, culminating in the release of her new album. MEGANand her “Hot Girl Summer Tour.” The album, which features high-profile collaborations with Victoria Monet, GloRilla, UGK, Big KRIT, Kyle Richh and Yuki Chiba, has cemented the Houston native's status as a force in the music industry. Her latest single, “MAMUSHI,” has over 150 million streams and topped Spotify's Global Viral chart in Japan.

Megan's achievements this year include her third No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “HISS,” a groundbreaking achievement as the first rap song by a solo artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200. Megan is up for five nominations at the 2024 VMAs, including Best Collaboration with tour mate GloRilla and Best Hip Hop, a category she previously won in 2020 for her hit “Savage (Remix)” featuring Beyoncé.

Although this is her first time hosting an awards ceremony, Megan is familiar with hosting duties. She previously hosted Saturday Night Live and co-moderator The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallonand shows her versatility beyond music.

Produced by Bruce Gillmer and Den of Thieves co-founder Jesse Ignjatovic, the VMAs promise to be an unforgettable night with Tina Snow at the helm. Megan recently made headlines with her passionate performance at a rally for presidential candidate Kamala Harris, where she expressed her excitement at making history with the first black president. Megan's debut as a VMAs host is set to be another historic moment in her already illustrious career.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from the UBS Arena in New York on Wednesday, September 11th at 8pm EST. Fans can vote for their favorites in 15 gender-neutral categories here through Friday, August 30th.
