John Lynch: We feel the urgency to bring back Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams

Updates on the status of the 49ers' talks with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and left tackle Trent Williams have been hard to come by, and that wasn't the case Thursday.

General manager John Lynch said on KNBR that there has been “good communication” with representatives for both players, but that they “just haven't made any breakthroughs” that would lead to an end to the contract deadlock with either player. That came a day after head coach Kyle Shanahan delivered much the same message, with Lynch saying the team knows there's not much to say or much time to get things done before the season starts.

“I'm not going to go into all the details,” Lynch said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “I think we're in a delicate period where anything that's said can be verified and so on. So we're going to leave it at that. No updates and keep working. I know the fans are eagerly awaiting this and the season is right around the corner. I can tell everybody we feel the urgency to get all of our players back. We're really excited about our team and those two guys have been a big part of us, a big part of our success, so we'd love to have them both back.”

When asked if the availability of any players for week one was in question due to their absences, Lynch said, “We're not there yet, but we're getting close,” before reiterating that the 49ers have a good feeling about the players who are there.
