Memphis Police Make Arrest in Penny Hardaway Porch Piracy Case

A 42-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with the theft of exclusive Nike sneakers from the home of Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway, Memphis police told The Commercial Appeal newspaper.

Ronald James was charged with theft of property.

According to Memphis police, officers responded to a theft alarm in the 400 block of Goodwyn Street around 7:20 p.m. on August 8, 2024. A copy of the incident report obtained by The Commercial Appeal on Wednesday lists Hardaway as the victim.

Fourteen pairs of the unique sneakers, designed specifically for Hardaway as well as friends and family, were stolen, according to the incident report, which also listed the estimated value of the shoes at $2,100.
