Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate, Senator JD Vance, visits Valdosta

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — Senator JD Vance, former President Donald Trump's vice presidential nominee, visited the Valdosta area Thursday afternoon. Watch his address to the crowd in the video above.

Senator Vance arrived at Valdosta Regional Airport on Thursday morning. During his visit to southern Georgia, he made several stops. One of those stops was Holt's Sweet Shop in Valdosta, where he ordered a few dozen doughnuts. You can watch the video of this visit in the player below.

From the candy store, Senator Vance received a briefing from local officials from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, where he learned about efforts to keep illegal drugs off Interstate 75. Watch the briefing with local law enforcement. in the video player below.

Dozens of neighbors traveled from far and wide to hear former President Trump's new vice presidential nominee speak. ABC 27 neighborhood reporter AJ Douglas was there as the crowd grew Thursday morning. Check out her Instagram video below.

The Republicans are not the only party keeping a close eye on Georgia ahead of November.

Reacting to Vance's visit, Harris for Georgia's Adelaide Bullock told ABC 27, “While Trump and Vance are dividing people in Georgia, Vice President Harris is bringing people together. Democrats in Georgia are experiencing unprecedented grassroots enthusiasm across the state, and more people than ever have signed up to campaign. Since the Vice President announced her campaign, more than 35,000 volunteers have joined our campaign on the ground. In the 24 hours following the Vice President's enthusiastic 10,000-person rally in Atlanta, more than 1,000 new volunteers signed up to knock on doors, canvass votes and support the campaign here in Georgia.”
