Shooting in Oakland leaves one dead, police investigating

According to police, one person was killed in a shooting in Oakland on Thursday.

Officers with the Oakland Police Department responded to the 7900 block of Ney Avenue, where multiple ShotSpotter activations occurred. Police said the shooting occurred after 7 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a victim with at least one apparent gunshot wound. Officers provided medical attention to the victim until medical personnel arrived. First responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

As part of their preliminary investigation, police said they found several people in private vehicles at local hospitals.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting. The victim's identity is being kept secret until next of kin are notified.

Police did not say whether there were any arrests or any clues as to a suspect.
