Autel releases major firmware update for EVO Max drones

Autel Robotics has released a major new firmware update for the EVO Max drone series, bringing a variety of new features and optimizations. Here is an overview of the new features and improvements in firmware v1.8.2.237 for the aircraft and remote control.

New features of the EVO Max drone

1. A-Mesh network

The standout feature of this update is the introduction of A-Mesh Networking, which allows multiple aircraft to be connected into one network. Essentially, you can now control multiple aircraft at once and use an additional controller as a secondary view of the main controller. Therefore, the feature can be useful in complex missions such as long-distance flights, obstacle-rich environments, and large-scale operations where multiple drones need to work together.

2. Support for speakers and headlights

The update also supports speaker and spotlight accessories, expanding the EVO Max's usability in low-light environments and for operations that require audible alarms. This is particularly useful for search and rescue, crowd control, and other scenarios where visual and audible cues are essential.

3. Remote ID function in China

To comply with regional regulations, Autel has added a Remote ID function specifically for users in China. This feature allows the drone to send identification information, increasing airspace safety and ensuring regulatory compliance.

4. SkyAwareness (ADS-B In)

Another key innovation is SkyAwareness, which uses ADS-B technology to provide drone pilots with greater situational awareness. This feature provides real-time alerts about nearby manned aircraft, helping to avoid potential collisions and ensuring safer flight operations, especially in busy airspace.

5. AI detection: fire and smoke

The EVO Max Series' AI detection system can now detect fire and smoke. This improvement is invaluable to emergency response teams, enabling faster identification and more accurate response to fire incidents.

6. UI improvements

For a better user experience, a new “Floating Ball” option for displaying shortcuts has been added. This feature allows you to hide the toolbar in a floating ball, making the interface more organized and customizable. This is especially useful when navigating complex missions where quick access to different functions is required.

7. Quick Mission

The update also introduces the Quick Mission feature, which simplifies mission planning and execution. This allows you to quickly deploy the drone with pre-configured mission parameters and save valuable time during critical operations.

8. AES-256 encryption

Security-conscious users will appreciate the additional AES-256 encryption for image transmission. This ensures that all data captured and transmitted by the drone is securely encrypted, protecting sensitive information during operation.

Bug fixes and optimizations

Autel has also fixed several bugs and made important optimizations in the latest firmware update of the EVO Max drone series, including:

  • Polygon Mission Functionality: The update has merged rectangular missions into polygon missions, simplifying mission planning and execution.
  • No-fly zone functionality: Improvements have been made to ensure better compliance with closed airspace regulations.
  • Compatibility with third-party KMZ files: Improved compatibility with third-party KMZ files improves integration with various mapping and mission planning tools.
  • Obstacle avoidance and evasion performance: Optimizations in this area ensure smoother and safer flight routes, even in challenging environments.
  • Altitude information with RTK: When using real-time kinematics (RTK) positioning, the update improves the accuracy of elevation data, which is essential for precise mapping and surveying.
