A Minnesota father's viral social media post about Gus Walz's emotional moment

All eyes were on Gov. Tim Walz on Wednesday as he officially accepted his party's nomination for vice president at the conclusion of the third day of the Democratic National Convention. But it was his son Gus who went viral for emotionally cheering on his father during the speech.

Rick Ellis is a journalist and founder of All Your Screens, but on Wednesday night he spoke to Walz as a father whose son suffers from anxiety and ADHD. Ellis tweeted about the moment with Gus Walz.

“I don't cry easily, but as a father of a teenage son who has autism, ADHD and anxiety, it just made me so happy to see Tim Walz's 17-year-old son (who has nonverbal learning disability, ADHD and anxiety) stand up, cry, point to the stage and tell everyone, 'That's my dad,'” he wrote.

The post was viewed 4 million times on X, formerly Twitter.

In a conversation with All Things Considered guest host Emily Bright, he shared more about why the moment resonated with him.
