Florida man sentenced to life in prison for murder of radio host

Bursey Armstrong has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Jacksonville radio host Tasheka Young and her unborn child. The verdict was announced Thursday in an emotional courtroom where Armstrong appeared unrepentant about his crimes.

In July, he was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder. At the sentencing hearing, Armstrong Young's mother Olivia repeatedly interrupted her expression of grief, drawing the ire of Judge Tatiana Salvador.

In July 2022, Young, known to listeners of Cox Media Group's Power 106.1 (WJGL-HD2) as “Tysheeks,” was killed in a domestic dispute. The mother of two was pregnant at the time. The trial featured emotional testimony, including from Young's cousin Anthony Cobb and her mother Olivia Young, both of whom described the profound impact their loss had on the family and community.

During the three-day trial, the jury heard testimony from several witnesses, including those who first arrived on the scene and others involved in the investigation. Armstrong, who had a history of violence against Young, chose not to testify in his defense.
