Marshella Chidester, the suspect in the Swan Boat Club accident, has to appear in court today

A woman who authorities say drove drunk into a Monroe County boating club earlier this year, killing two children, is scheduled to appear in court Friday for a pretrial hearing.

Marshella Chidester was scheduled to go on trial in June for the April 20 car crash that killed 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 5-year-old Zayn Phillips and injured more than a dozen other people.

The trial is scheduled for 9 a.m. Watch live above.

Chidester, 66, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of drunken driving causing death and four counts of drunken driving causing serious bodily injury. Her blood alcohol level was 0.18, more than twice the legal limit in Michigan, according to the results of a blood test.

Although there was evidence that she was drunk, her attorney Bill Colovos argued that she should not be charged with premeditated murder because she had no intention of killing anyone.

“My client had no intention whatsoever,” he said during the preliminary hearing.

However, the judge rejected this claim and ordered a jury trial for Chidester after hearing testimony from both Monroe County Sheriff's officials and the victims of the accident.

Surveillance video shows Chidester leaving her home, which is next to the Berlin Township building, then getting into her car and speeding into the club while a child's birthday party was taking place. The video also shows the accident and its aftermath.

Chidester told investigators she could not remember the accident.
