Is Joey Votto a Hall of Famer? Statistics from his 17-year baseball career

When Joey Votto announced his retirement on Wednesday, he raised a question that will not be answered for five years.

Is the longtime Cincinnati Reds first baseman a Hall of Famer?

The 2010 NL MVP finished his 17-year career with a .294 average, .409 OBP and .920 OPS and was one of the most respected players in the game.

Votto made his major league debut in 2007, following the “steroid era,” and was a different type of hitter than the hard-hitting first basemen of the generation before him. A Gold Glove winner, Votto hit 30-plus home runs only three times in his career (2010, 2017, 2021), but was one of the hardest hitters in baseball, leading the NL in on-base percentage seven times during a nine-year stretch from 2010 to 2018.
