Read the full verdict – NBC Boston

Judge Beverly Cannone announced the highly anticipated verdict in the controversial Karen Read murder case on Friday, rejecting a defense request to drop two of the charges, including second-degree murder.

The denial of the motion to dismiss means the case is now headed to a second hearing on January 27, 2025.

You can read the full 21-page judgment below:

Read is accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, outside a Canton home during a snowstorm in January 2022, although her team insists she was framed for the crime.

She was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of a crime resulting in personal injury and death.

After Read's first trial was declared a failure, her lawyers had asked for two charges against her to be dropped: second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident causing death. They said several jurors who had been involved in the case claimed during deliberations that the entire jury agreed that Read was not guilty on either count.
