Woman arrested for assaulting children in home daycare

BAILEY'S CROSSROADS, Va. – A 47-year-old woman was arrested for attacking two children at her daycare in Bailey's Crossroads.

Sumy Shah ran a county-licensed daycare center where, according to child welfare investigators, she repeatedly bound two children with duct tape.

Fairfax County officials responded to a report of an assault on August 1, but Shah did not turn herself in until August 20. During that time, investigators found evidence charging her with two counts of assault and two counts of enticement of a minor to commit crimes. Shah was held on bail and has since been released.

Following the attack, police assigned victim specialists to the children to help them access appropriate resources and assistance.
