Isaiah Shuman, 21, was arrested and charged with multiple crimes following a brief crime spree in the early hours of Friday morning.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the parking lot behind the Half Barrel at 1831 Cumberland Avenue. Shuman was reportedly ordered to leave the bar and threatened to kill an employee. Shuman left the scene in a white Dodge Challenger, fired one shot in an unknown direction and sped away from the parking lot, striking two parked vehicles.

A 21-year-old woman was in the car with Shuman and reportedly told Shuman that she wanted to get out of the car, but he refused to let her get out.

A short time later, Shuman's car was speeding down 17th Street toward Western Avenue and was spotted by a UT Police Department officer. The UTPD officer who responded found that Shuman's car had crashed into both another vehicle and a retaining wall.

Shuman fled the scene of the accident and then reportedly forced his way into a home in the 700 block of Alfredda Delaney Street. There were three people inside the home at the time of the incident. Shuman took a phone from the home and then ran out the back door.

After running out of the house, Shuman was found by UTPD officers, who arrested him after a short foot chase.

Shuman was taken into custody on a variety of charges, including four counts of aggravated kidnapping, three counts of hit and run, and one count of aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, and reckless endangerment.

Shuman was taken to UT Medical Center for evaluation as he was involved in a car accident. The victim, who was in the car with Shuman at the time of the accident on 17th Street, was also taken to UTMC for medical treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.
