Friday, August 23 – These NINE new horror films came out today

It's probably safe to say that today is the true start of the Halloween season, at least as far as movie schedules go. From now until October 31st, the schedule is FULL of new horror movies. First of all, NINE new horror movies came out today alone…

After the director had exceeded the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office, Osgood Perkins' successful horror film Long-legged is now available for home use as a digital purchase ($24.99) and rental ($19.99).

Celebrated as the “scariest film of the year”, Long-legged was written and directed by Perkins; the main roles are played by Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia WittAnd Nicholas Cage.

In Long-legged“FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) is a gifted new recruit who is tasked with the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Nicholas Cage). As the case takes complex turns and evidence of occult machinations comes to light, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he takes the lives of another family.”


Good reviews and a lot of buzz here in the community ensure Strange darling A must-see this weekend. The film is now showing exclusively in cinemas nationwide.

Stephen King calls the film from Magenta Light Studios “a clever masterpiece.”

“We are delighted to present this unique and extraordinary film with great performances by Willa Fitzgerald And Kyle Gallner. This second film by the talented screenwriter and director JT Mollner has the potential to become a cult classic that defies conventional storytelling,” Magenta Light’s Bob Yari said in a recent statement.

Strange darling currently has a 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 72 reviews, one of which is from Trace Thurman here on Bloody Disgusting. Trace reviewed the film as part of Fantastic Fest and gave the cat-and-mouse thriller a rating of 3.5/5 stars.

Trace writes: “Writer/director JT Mollner’s Strange darling [is] a film that asks us to question the roles expected of men and women.” He goes on to say that the film is ultimately “a more intelligent contribution to the cat-and-mouse thriller genre than one would expect.”


Led by Zoe Kravitz (The Batman) and formerly titled Pussy IslandMGM's new horror thriller Flash twice is now in cinemas nationwide.

The latest feature of The Adams family (HellbenderWhere the devil roams), the disgusting body horror creature film Hellhole was released today exclusively on Shudder.

What would a monster movie be without monster effects? Hellhole has even more impressive talent on that front. The film's creature effects were created by a 35-year veteran of monster and prosthetic makeup effects, Todd Masters (“Out of,” Child's play) and his studio MASTERSFX, with Trey Lindsay by Moondog Pictures (Hellbender, Where the devil wreaks havoc) Monitoring visual effects and the Serbia-based studio Cinergy FX (Hellraiser) provided additional gore and make-up effects.

The review of “The Crow”

A fresh reinterpretation of the legendary comic story with Bill Skarsgard (IT) takes on the title role, The Crow is now playing in theaters nationwide, courtesy of Lionsgate.

After a successful run on the festival circuit, found-footage sci-fi horror film Hostile dimensions unleashes multiverse madness on Dark Sky Films’ VOD outlets.

Hostile dimensions is a film full of twists and turns from the screenwriter and director Graham Hugheswhose previous film Death of a vlogger was a hit at FrightFest 2019 and received much praise from critics.

Hughes also stars in the film, alongside Annabel Logan.

Hostile dimensions tells of “two documentary filmmakers who decide to investigate the disappearance of a graffiti artist who has seemingly 'vanished'. As they delve deeper into their investigation, they come across an ominous freestanding door that leads them on a dark journey through the dimensions beyond. Determined to uncover the truth, the pair soon realize they have stumbled upon something far more terrifying than they could have ever imagined.”

In a cross-genre comedy, body-snatching aliens try to find the right path in love in the modern world The emergingwhich has an extremely limited theatrical release this weekend.

The film will premiere in New York on August 23 at the Cinema Village, in Los Angeles on August 30 at the Lumiere Music Hall and in Chicago on September 13 at the Music Box Theatre. There will be a Q&A with the filmmakers. Additional cities and dates to be announced. The film will be available on VOD for home viewing on September 24.
