Scott Co. caregiver arrested and accused of stealing jewelry from elderly couple

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A Scott County woman was arrested and charged with theft after an elderly couple reported her for stealing jewelry from their home while she was providing care for them in their home.

According to the Scott County Sheriff's Office, Sarah A. Noriega, 34, of Scottsburg, is charged with one count of theft and is currently in the Scott County Jail.

The sheriff's office began its investigation on August 10, when a homeowner called police because she noticed several pieces of jewelry missing from her home.

The woman told police that she and her husband were regularly visited by a doctor, whom police later identified as Noriega. The couple told police that Noriega suddenly stopped coming to their home and stopped answering their calls.

A deputy with the Scott County Sheriff's Office found several of the missing pieces of jewelry in Clark County and was able to establish probable cause to believe that Noriega had sold them. Noriega was subsequently arrested and taken to the Scott County Jail without incident.

Almost all of the missing jewelry was returned to the homeowner.
