Pickaway Co. teacher allegedly sent explicit photos to student

Tiffany Haughey, 42, was charged with distributing material harmful to minors after allegedly exchanging photos with a student.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Pickaway County teacher has been charged after admitting to sending explicit photographs to a student earlier this month, according to a sheriff's office report.

Tiffany Haughey, 42, was charged with distributing material harmful to minors after allegedly exchanging photos with a student. She was an intervention specialist for the Westfall Local School District.

According to a report from the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office, on August 2, a deputy was called to Westfall High School to meet with the principal. The principal informed the deputy of a situation involving a minor and an intervention specialist.

The principal told the deputy he had become aware of an incident in which the intervention specialist had sent pornographic images to a student, the report states. The incident was discovered after a student told one of his coaches that Haughey had allegedly sent obscene photos to another student.

On August 8, officers spoke with the student in question, who said he and the teacher had become Snapchat friends and would chat with each other every day. He reportedly told officers he and the teacher had exchanged explicit photos.

Later that same day, officers spoke to her outside Haughey's home. According to the report, Haughey told police she had been begged to send pictures and she was in a vulnerable state. The teacher said the student had sent her explicit photos. She also admitted to sending the student explicit photos, the report said.

The school district said Haughey was immediately placed on leave and has not been on school property since the district received the first complaint.

Haughey resigned on 16 August.

“The district has cooperated with local law enforcement in the investigation and has complied with all reporting obligations to the Ohio State Board of Education's Office of Professional Conduct. As superintendent, there is no higher priority than the health, safety and well-being of our students,” Superintendent Jason Fife said in a statement.
