Armed teen shot, killed after charging Gwinnett officers, police say

The clinician and officers on the scene negotiated with the suspect for several minutes, according to the police statement.

The 17-year-old, who was still on the phone with the clinician, charged at two of the responding officers and swung the knife, leading the officers to fatally shoot him, according to Flynn. Police will not share the man’s identity until his next of kin has been notified.

Flynn said the shooting took place near downtown Sugar Hill, just southwest of Buford. The suburban downtown area is home to a theater and several restaurants and bars. Roads in the area have been shut down since the shooting and will remain closed as the investigation continues, Flynn said.

The GBI has been notified of the shooting and taken over as the lead agency in the investigation.

The state agency has not released any information about the incident.
