Eau Claire Police release further video of incident between police officer and woman on Water Street

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – An Eau Claire woman faces multiple charges, including threatening a police officer.

The incident occurred on July 27 on Water Street.

Below is the video released by Eau Claire Police on Friday afternoon:

Makayla Patterson spoke to WEAU about the incident, which she said she obtained footage from police bodycam.

Her video posted on Facebook was two and a half minutes long, compared to the longer video posted by the Eau Claire Police Department.

In the ECPD footage, more than an hour passes as police ask Patterson's friend for identification.

In the press release below, police said they made repeated attempts to defuse the situation.

Patterson claimed she was talking to a friend when she said she was going to “slap them in the face.”

The press release also states that officers warned the women that making threats to the police was a criminal offense.

Police began to arrest Patterson, but they said she resisted arrest.

Patterson said the arrest left her with a concussion and injuries to her face, chest and body.

The ECPD stated: “This incident is being thoroughly investigated and we will remain transparent in our investigation of all events.”

Patterson said she has been driving more slowly and cautiously since the incident, fearing the same thing could happen again.

“I don't like watching it. When I went to watch the footage, I went to my dad and just started crying because, even though, I don't know, I just heard it. I just couldn't watch it,” Patterson said.

WEAU asked ECPD if the officer in the video was reprimanded or if his conduct was appropriate.

According to ECPD, the incident is under investigation.
