Ryan Reynolds' call for “More Blade” goes viral after Wesley Snipes wows audience

HOLLYWOOD (WKRC) – Ryan Reynolds' call for “More Blade, please” went viral on social media after Wesley Snipes wowed audiences with his long-awaited return as the Marvel superhero.

The 62-year-old returned as “Blade” in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which was a box office success. As of August 22, the film has grossed $1.15 billion worldwide.

Snipes first appeared in the role of the vampire hunter in 1998 and reprised the role in 2002's Blade II and 2004's Blade: Trinity, in which Reynolds played a supporting role.

Reynolds posted a behind-the-scenes photo of himself and Snipes on Instagram on Wednesday, which received over 970,000 likes.

“The reaction when Wesley Snipes walks into the movie is the most intense thing I've ever heard in a theater. People screaming with unbridled joy and love is also the sound of a legacy. More Blade, please,” Reynolds wrote in the caption.

During the development of Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds contacted Snipes about a possible return to the role of Blade, sending him a text message that simply said, “I want to talk to you.”

“I didn't think it was possible,” Snipes said of returning to the role of Blade after 20 years. “I didn't think we could pull it off. I didn't think Marvel was interested, Disney was – also because they had cast Mahershala (Ali) in the next version. I thought, this doesn't make sense to me, but when you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you're like, 'OK, I have to take this call. Let's see what it's about.' He told me about the idea. They said, 'Yes,' and 'Let's go.' 'If you're in, we're in.' Here we are.”

According to Variety, a “Blade” reboot has been in the works for several years, but there have been several development issues. In June, the project lost its director Yann Demange and Eric Pearson, the screenwriter of “Black Widow” and “Fantastic Four,” came on board.

“Let this man cook,” one Instagram user wrote under Reynolds’ viral Instagram post.

“His cameo got the biggest response in our theater. I screamed at the top of my lungs. Long overdue flowers for Wesley Snipes and his contribution to Marvel,” wrote another.
