iPhone 16 cameras: New leak reveals big changes that should lead to better photos

Rumor has it that Apple will reveal everything about the iPhone 16 in just a few weeks – and this big leak is likely to increase the anticipation even more.

Apple Insider claims to have obtained the iPhone 16 camera specs on Thursday. There are some important details to note, most notably that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will have the same camera specs this year. But there's even more to consider in these leaks.

iPhone 16 camera specifications

According to Apple Insider, these are the specs you can expect from the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus:

The iPhone 16's wide-angle camera, also called the main lens, appears to have the same specs as the iPhone 15. However, the ultra-wide lens now has a faster aperture, improved from f/2.4 to f/2.2. This should improve low-light shooting capabilities. According to Apple Insider, the non-Pro phones will also get macro photography this year. The two lenses are also stacked vertically, rather than diagonally.

Mashable Speed of Light

These rumors get really exciting when you get to the iPhone 16 Pro models, though. Here are the specs Apple Insider reported for the Pro phones, which are both rumored to have the same specs this year:

There are two important things to note here. First, both Pro phones have a 5x telephoto zoom this year, unlike last year when only the Pro Max had it. Second, the ultra-wide lens on the Pro phones has been increased from 12MP to 48MP this year.

Most recently, Apple Insider reported that the rumored “Capture Button,” a capacitive button specifically for use with camera functions, is real and will be used on all four iPhone 16 models. Theoretically, you'll be able to open the camera app with the press of a button, among other things. You can also slide your finger over the button for other possible actions.

Rumor has it that Apple will announce the iPhone 16 at an event on September 10.
