Viral video: Unusual footage of “seven suns” in the Chinese sky amazes internet users, “just a visual special effect for beginners”

A video showing seven suns in the sky recently went viral on social media. The unusual footage was shot in Chengdu, Sichuan, in southwest China, and shows seven “suns” appearing in a row. According to various media reports, the video was shot by a woman named Ms. Wang from the 11th floor of a hospital in Chengdu on August 18.

According to reports, the breathtaking celestial spectacle in the video was not a cosmic phenomenon, but an optical illusion. The effect was caused by the refraction of light in the individual panes of a multi-layered hospital window.

Social media users were surprised by the viral video, with some questioning its authenticity and wondering if graphic designers were involved. Reactions varied: some called the video fake, while others said that if the phenomenon were real, there would be more footage.

One user asked, “How much China paid for graphic artists,” while another called it “very unique.”

Another user simply labelled the video as VFX and wrote: “If this incident happened in the sky, why is there only one video available on the internet? Are mobile phones and cameras banned in this city? This is just a VFX novice's video project.”

“So this looks like a fake. All suns have the same markings,” another user noted.

One user said: “Nature can be scary”

“There’s no way this can be true,” said another.

“Must be VERY RARE, this has never happened before,” commented one user.

“China has a population of 1.425 million and only one mobile phone could record such a 'phenomenon'. What a poorly told lie!”

One user joked: “Maybe the sun is trying to burn China”

Another added: “This is what unchecked pollution looks like.”

“In other words, China's terrible air pollution is bad enough to create optical distortions and shadows from the sun,” one user added.
