Suspect in Middle River grandmother and granddaughter murder case to appear in court on Monday

TOWSON – The suspect in the July deaths of a woman and her grandmother in Middle River was scheduled to appear in court Friday, but his hearing has been postponed.

Bryan Cherry's bail review hearing in this case is scheduled for Monday, August 26, as he remains in custody in Baltimore.

In addition to the murder charges against him in connection with the Middle River deaths, Cherry also faces murder, attempted murder, assault and other charges in Baltimore.

The first case that brought him to the attention of the police occurred in June.

The family of Autumn Harvey and Iona Sellers can rest a little easier since Bryan Cherry was named as a suspect in their deaths.

“I'm so relieved and happy that we have a chance at justice, but it's hard,” said Devin Harvey, Autumn Harvey's cousin.

Difficult because the family still doesn't know why this had to happen to their loved ones.

“I just don't understand how someone with feelings or a heart can do something like that to someone,” said Devin Harvey.

Autumn Harvey and Sellers were found dead in a home on Taos Circle on July 7 following a location check call.

According to the charging documents, Autumn Harvey suffered multiple stab wounds to her head, shoulder and neck. Sellers suffered blunt force trauma.

According to charging documents, Baltimore County police identified Cherry as a suspect based on surveillance camera footage in the neighborhood and surrounding area.

While searching Sellers' phone, officers were alerted to suspicious activity with her Wells Fargo credit card. After reviewing security camera footage from the locations where the card was used, Cherry was identified as the same person in other footage.

According to charging documents, Cherry was also linked to the murders by DNA from a cigarette butt at the crime scene.

History of violent crime in Baltimore City

What first put Cherry on the police radar was a stabbing on June 26.

That day, police found a man stabbed to death at East Baltimore Medical Center, according to the indictment. The victim told officers, “The suspect attacked him without provocation.”

The officer who wrote the report, after identifying Cherry as a suspect in the case, noted that the facts of the crime showed that Cherry “posed a threat to society.”

An arrest warrant was issued for Cherry on July 1 and executed almost two weeks later after two murder investigations were launched.

Another murder case

Baltimore police have identified Cherry as a suspect in the death of Sierra Johnson.

At around 9 a.m., Johnson was found dead of head injuries in the 800 block of Abbott Court. Officers found Cherry nearby and arrested him.

Devin Autumn said the family is ready to seek justice for his loved ones in court.

“I know that [Autumn] is happy for us that we can now breathe a sigh of relief. She is glad that no one else has to go through what she went through,” he said.
