Three women in hospital after golf cart accident on Kelleys Island

KELLEYS ISLAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Three women were airlifted to the hospital Friday after they were seriously injured in a rollover accident involving a golf cart on Kelleys Island, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

At approximately 6:46 p.m., 27-year-old Eleanor Austin of Clyde, 25-year-old Stela Francic and 21-year-old Brenda Mesa, both of Sandusky, were driving a 2017 EZGO golf cart north on Division Street.

According to the press release, driver Austin lost control of his golf cart, veered off the right side of the road and overturned the car into a nearby tree trunk.

According to the OSHP, all three women were thrown from the golf cart by the impact.

Austin was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to Toledo St. Vincent's Hospital.

Francic and Mesa were flown to Cleveland Metro Hospital for treatment.

Kelleys Island Police, Fire and EMS, along with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Cleveland Clinic Life Flights, Cleveland Metro Life Flight and Mercy Life Flight, arrived at the scene.

According to OSHP, the accident remains under investigation.
