Although we don't yet know what may have led to Thursday morning's officer-involved shooting in Alton, Illinois State Police released an information Friday.

Investigators believe 27-year-old Vernon Randle Jr. of Alton was killed around 6 a.m. Thursday morning near the intersection of Liberty and East Sixth.

State police said no further information on the investigation was available.

We know that the ISP was specifically tasked with investigating the use of force in the shooting.

Alton Police Chief Jarrett Ford released a statement Friday thanking the public for their outpouring of support in connection with the shooting death of police dog Odin.

Ford said Odin's partner is currently recovering at home and his body armor saved him from serious injury.

Ford said prayers are welcome for the Alton Police Department and anyone else affected by the incident.
