Man charged with murder after shooting at Harbor House Apartments in Claymont

SKYFOX records a police presence outside the Harbor House Apartments in Claymont after a shooting was reported.

A 27-year-old man has faced multiple charges following a shooting that police say occurred at a New Castle County apartment complex Friday morning.

At approximately 10:27 a.m., officers were dispatched to Harbor House Apartments for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a 35-year-old man who had been shot.

The victim, identified as Devontre Taylor of Wilmington, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The SWAT team and crisis negotiation team arrived at the scene after reports that the suspect was seen entering a building in the complex.

SWAT and patrol officers arrested a man matching the description provided in the building.

They then took him to the New Castle County Police Department.

While in police custody, detectives were able to identify the suspect as 27-year-old Michael Toombs of Claymont.

Toombs was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, manufacture/delivery/use of a controlled substance, and three counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a serious felony.

Michael was arraigned and remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $950,000 cash bail.
