Passenger dies when car clips fire truck, causes crash in N. Philly – NBC10 Philadelphia

One person is dead and another injured after a car collided with a fire truck in North Philadelphia, a Philadelphia police spokesman said.

The accident occurred at around 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, at the intersection of West Lehigh and West Sedgley Avenue, police said.

A Philadelphia Fire Department emergency vehicle was traveling westbound on West Lehigh Avenue on its way to a call when it was cut off from the front by a car traveling north on West Sedgley Avenue, officials said.

When the car drove in front of the fire engine, the two vehicles collided, according to officials.

The car then crashed into a parked vehicle, police said.

A 23-year-old passenger in the car was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly before 1 p.m., police said.

The driver of the car was identified as a man in his late twenties. Police said he was taken to a nearby hospital where he is in critical condition.

The Accident Investigation Department is investigating the accident.
