James Gunn debunks 'leaked' Superman costume photo

James Gunn has debunked a leaked Superman costume photo ahead of the release of his upcoming Clark Kent blockbuster.

The director criticized the fake photo on social media, which apparently showed Superman lead actor David Corenswet photographed in the costume of the new Man of Steel.

“Let's see. Can the man on the left take a photo of himself holding an amorphous black bob while looking through an eye on the front of his hat?” Gunn wrote on Threads in response to a question about whether he could confirm whether the photo was real or fake.

“Can the man's upper body on the right grow out of his right hip and can he be stupid enough to wear his pants with the drawstring in the back?

“Are David Corenswet's hands made of wax, with no bones or veins? And could Superman's pants be knitted from yarn?

“Ask yourself these questions and I am sure you will be able to answer the question yourself.”

Gunn announced the news last summer that Corenswet would play Superman in the upcoming film, alongside Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan, who will take on the role of Daily Planet's top reporter Lois Lane.

The director also recently announced a title change for the highly anticipated DC blockbuster, confirming that the film will now be called simply “Superman.”

It was previously announced as “Superman: Legacy.”

“I am thrilled to announce that principal photography on SUPERMAN begins today, February 29th, which happens to be Superman's birthday,” Gunn wrote on Instagram.

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I finished the final draft, it was clear that the title was SUPERMAN. Coming to you in July 2025.”

The film's star-studded cast also includes Skyler Gisondo from “The Righteous Gemstones”, Sara Sampaio (Crisis), Nathan Fillion from “The Suicide Squad”, Edi Gathegi from “Twilight” and Nicholas Hoult from “X-Men”.

Isabela Merced from “Madame Web”, María Gabriela de Faría from “The Authority”, Sean Gunn from “Guardians of the Galaxy” and Suits star Wendell Pierce are also expected to appear in the blockbuster.

Superman will be in theaters on July 11, 2025.
