Evan Neal injury update: Latest news on the New York Giants right tackle

New York Giants right tackle Evan Neal suffered an ankle injury during Saturday night's final preseason game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

The misfortune continues for the controversial former first-round pick. It is not clear if this is the same ankle that Neal underwent surgery on in the offseason.

Neal's return was deemed questionable midway through the second quarter after the starting offensive line (the actual second team) ended its night.

The Giants have not been able to rely on Neal since they selected him No. 7 in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Due to poor performance and injuries, the Alabama product has had a frustrating time with the Giants, missing 14 of 34 career games since being drafted.

Neal missed all of spring practice and most of training camp while recovering from offseason ankle surgery.

He eventually returned to practice in a limited capacity and made his season debut at right tackle against the Jets on Saturday night. However, he only played 19 snaps against the Jets before suffering the injury.

Neal is expected to be the backup right tackle for experienced Jermaine Eluemunor, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason.

It is still unclear if this is a serious injury, but Neal has struggled to stay on the field since being called up.
