2 injured in drive-by shooting after custody dispute, says SAPD

SAN ANTONIO – A dispute over custody of a family member ended in a drive-by shooting that left two people injured, according to San Antonio police.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday in the 3500 block of South Zarzamora Street.

According to police, an argument broke out between a girl's mother and grandfather on Royston Avenue.

The argument escalated and the mother decided to flee in a car with her boyfriend, the girl and a 10-year-old boy.

The grandfather followed the woman's vehicle and eventually caught up with her. According to police, he fired several shots at the car.

According to SAPD, the mother was shot in the side and her boyfriend was shot once in the shoulder. Both were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the children were not injured in the shooting.

According to police, the grandfather then drove back to Royston Avenue, where he was detained for further questioning.

The children, along with other family members, were in the process of being discharged.
