Bethesda announces release date for new Starfield update and expansion

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, Bethesda Game Studios announced the immediate availability of a new free update for Starfield. In addition, the studio confirmed that Shattered Spacethe next story expansion for the game, will be released on October 1, 2024.

The August update introduces the REV-8 land vehicle, a new mode of transport designed to give players more freedom to explore StarfieldThe diverse environments. The REV-8 is equipped with a turret for combat, armor for protection, and space for a companion. It also features boosters that not only help to cover ground quickly, but also allow players to jump over obstacles and reach otherwise inaccessible areas.

To access the REV-8, players must visit a Ship Service Technician to install a vehicle module. Once installed, the REV-8 will automatically deploy outside of the selected ship wherever the player lands.

The update also introduces new display settings for Xbox Series S that match those on Xbox Series X. These include:

  • Frame rate target: Players can choose between frame rates of 30, 40, 60, or an unlimited rate on displays with variable refresh rate (VRR). On displays without VRR, only 30 or 60 fps can be selected, although setting it to 60 fps may cause screen tearing.
  • Prioritize: Options are available to prioritize either Visuals or Performance. Selecting Visuals maintains the highest resolution and level of detail for effects, lighting, and crowds, while Performance lowers these settings to increase frame rate. Both modes can dynamically adjust the internal resolution to match the complexity of the scene.
  • VSync: Added a switch to turn VSync on or off. Turning VSync off can cause screen tearing as it decouples the game frame rate from the monitor refresh rate. Enabling VSync syncs the game frame rate with the monitor refresh rate to reduce tearing, but may limit the number of frames rendered.

The Shattered Space The expansion invites players to explore the new city of Dazra on the hidden homeworld of House Va'Ruun. It also offers the opportunity to investigate a fearsome cosmic threat, explore the home planet of House Va'Ruun, and discover unique weapons, spacesuits, and equipment.

Owners of the Premium or Constellation Edition of Starfield receive Shattered Space as part of their original purchase. Players who own the base version can purchase the Premium Upgrade, which gives access to Shattered Space and other digital items such as a digital art book, an original soundtrack, 1,000 Creation Credits, and the Constellation Skin Pack.
