HARPER WOODS, Mich. (FOX 2)A woman called Harper Woods police around 6:30 p.m. on August 24 when her husband, who was experiencing a mental health crisis, locked himself in the basement of their home with a rifle.

The 57-year-old man spent just over an hour in the basement of a home in the 18800 block of Woodland before turning himself in to police.

Nobody was injured.

Police said the man was in a “mental health crisis” because he had not taken his medication “for several months.”

The wife told officers that she left the house when he locked himself in the basement and sought her help.

At around 7:45 p.m., he was taken into protective custody without further incident and admitted to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

A loaded weapon was removed from the basement and confiscated by police.
