Kieran Culkin says he's glad he doesn't have a job so he can “just be a dad” for a while

  • Kieran Culkin says he is looking forward to his break so he can focus on his role as a father to his two children.

  • During the Sundance Film Festival, he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his upcoming plans.

  • “I'm going to shut off the world for about a week and just be a dad,” said the “Succession” star.

Kieran Culkin says he is looking forward to having time off from work to focus on his duties as a father.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter during the Sundance Film Festival, the actor talked about his upcoming plans.

“I'm really looking forward to coming home because for the last couple of weeks I haven't really been a proper father, which makes me feel like crap and like I'm not myself,” Culkin told The Hollywood Reporter.

The 41-year-old actor had a busy January, winning a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award and an Emmy for his work in “Succession.”

Now he is ready to focus his energy on his family.

“I'm going to shut down the world for about a week and just be a dad. 'Did you read the email?' No, I didn't,” Culkin said, adding that he's “not going to do anything except change diapers and baths and stuff like that for about a week.”

He also shared that he has no plans for another project after “A Real Pain,” which premiered at the festival, so he can take some time to recharge his batteries.

“A Real Pain” tells the story of two cousins who travel through Poland after the death of their grandmother. Culkin stars in the film alongside Jesse Eisenberg, who also directs.

“I'm fortunate to have these long periods of time where I can do just that, and that's when I feel the most like myself,” Culkin said. “So I can have that for a while because I never really know exactly when the next job is going to come.”

Culkin and his wife Jazz Charton have two children: Kinsey Sioux, 4, and Wilder Wolf, 2.
