Man shot for $20 at food truck in SW Houston, shooter still at large

HOUSTON – Authorities in southwest Houston are investigating a fatal shooting that apparently involved a $20 charitable award at a food truck.

Commander J. Dale of the Houston Police Department said it happened around 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Chimney Rock and Gulfton. Based on their initial investigation, he said it all started with three men asking people at a food truck for $20.

An unidentified man, described by police as the victim, said he would take $20 and went to the nearby apartments. He returned with a gun and pointed it at the three men, but did not shoot. However, those three men shot him and died at the scene.

According to police, the shooters ran from the scene, jumped into a car and were seen driving west on Elm Street.

One of the shooters has already been identified by police, but no one has been arrested at the time of writing. No further details have been released, but police say there is sufficient surveillance video and it is being used as part of their ongoing investigation.
