Man of Indian descent in the USA allegedly hid his wife's body

Naresh Bhatt, a 37-year-old Indian-origin man in the US, has been arrested for allegedly hiding his wife's lifeless body. Three weeks have passed since Mamta Kafle Bhatt went missing.

No official murder charges have been filed against Bhatt in connection with the death of the 28-year-old mother of two, CNN reported, citing court documents.

In a recent interview with WUSA, Bhatt expressed his concern about his missing wife, saying it was not the first time she had disappeared.

“I am the one who is suffering. She is the mother of my baby. She is my wife. I am the one who is suffering, so I don't know what to say,” Bhatt told WUSA.

Naresh Bhatt appeared in court on August 23 for arraignment. According to a preliminary criminal complaint, Bhatt is alleged to have killed his wife around July 30.

Kafle Bhatt was last seen on July 27 at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas, where she worked as a nurse in the medical and surgical department.

On July 28, Mamta Bhatt had her last conversation with a friend and uploaded a final video of herself and her daughter on TikTok. Mamta's former roommate Nadia Navarro mentioned that Mamta tried calling her the same day, but she missed the calls because she was sleeping.

Later, a person who had met Mamta at her baby shower contacted Nadia and asked if she knew where Mamta was. Nadia couldn't believe that Mamta could have disappeared and explained that Mamta is usually calm and responsible. According to Nadia, she is not someone who would leave impulsively.

Bhatt bought knives

Investigators reported that Bhatt was caught on surveillance cameras buying a set of three knives while shopping at Walmart on July 30. However, after a police search, two of them were missing.

The next day, he was seen at another Walmart, where he bought cleaning supplies. In a later interview, Bhatt mentioned that he last saw his wife on July 31.

An investigation revealed a lack of contact and suspicious evidence. Her husband, who was initially cooperative, was later arrested on August 22 after authorities searched their home. He remains in custody.
