Shootings in Chicago this weekend: Police say at least 30 people were shot in gun violence across the city, 5 of them fatally

CHICAGO (WLS) — At least 30 people have been shot, five fatally, in shootings across Chicago this weekend, police said.

According to Chicago police, one man is dead and two others injured after a shooting early Sunday morning in the northwest of the city.

Police said the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Harding Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood.

Two men, ages 32 and 19, and a third person identified only as a woman were standing in the street when someone fired shots, police said.

The 32-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The Chicago Fire Department took him to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.

The 19-year-old man with the gunshot wound to the back was taken to the same hospital in good condition.

The female victim, whose age was initially unknown, was not shot but suffered minor injuries from broken glass.

No one is in custody and Area Five detectives are investigating.

About two hours later, a woman was shot in the Cabrini-Green neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. in the 900 block of North Cambridge Avenue.

A 20-year-old woman was outside when an unknown assailant approached her on foot and fired shots, police said.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, where she was pronounced dead.

No one is in custody, police are investigating.

Police did not initially provide any further information about the shooting.

Chicago police are investigating a shooting Saturday that left a teenager seriously injured near a soccer stadium in the city's far south side.

The shooting occurred around 4:15 p.m. in a parking lot in the 10300 block of South Cottage Grove near Gately Park Stadium, located at 810 E. 103rd St. in Pullman near Roseland, Chicago police said.

Witnesses told ABC7 that the shooting occurred during a back-to-school event. A basketball game was taking place during the event, and after it ended, crowds of teenagers gathered in the parking lot.

A 15-year-old boy was standing in the crowd in the parking lot when a white vehicle approached him and someone in the vehicle began shooting at him, police said.

A witness who assisted at the scene told ABC7 the teenager was arguing with a person in a white SUV before shots were fired and the SUV drove away.

The teenage victim was shot in the stomach, police said. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was initially listed in serious condition.

Some of the teenager's family members were seen outside the hospital on Saturday evening as the victim continued to receive treatment.

No one has been arrested while Chicago police continue their investigation. No further information was immediately available.

Hours later, a 21-year-old man was found shot to death in a car in Chicago Lawn.

The man was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the 7200 South Washtenaw Avenue block around 7:15 p.m., Chicago police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The circumstances of the shooting are unknown and no arrests have been reported.

About an hour later, three people, including a teenager, were injured in a shooting on the city's West Side.

The shooting occurred around 8:07 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Douglas Boulevard, Chicago police said.

The three victims were walking on a sidewalk when they were shot. The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known, police said.

A 33-year-old man was shot in the chest, police said. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 17-year-old boy was shot in the groin, police said. They were also taken to Mount Sinai, where they were both reportedly in fair condition.

While the Chicago Police Department's investigation continues, no one has been arrested.

Further information was not initially available.

Later Saturday night, a person was found shot to death on a sidewalk in the Little Village neighborhood, police said.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the 2400 block of South Christiana Avenue.

An unidentified person (identified only as a man) was found with gunshot wounds to his body.

Chicago Fire Department transported the victim to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

No one is in custody and Area Four detectives are investigating.

A man was found shot to death in South Chicago on Friday evening, police said.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Phillips Avenue.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter call and received another call about a person shot while patrolling the area.

Officers discovered an unconscious 35- to 40-year-old man who had been shot in the stomach, police said.

Police said the Chicago Fire Department arrived to treat the victim and his death was pronounced at the scene.

No one is in custody and detectives from Area Two are investigating.

Police did not initially provide any further information about the shooting.

Last weekend, at least 30 people were shot in gun violence in Chicago, five of them fatally, police said.
