Suspected methamphetamine seized after a chase ended with an accident through the fence

A man is in custody after leading police on a chase in Chambers County.

Officers with the Chambers County Crime Prevention Unit attempted to stop a vehicle near Mani Street and Farm Rode 563 in Anahuac around 12:20 p.m. Saturday.

The driver fled with the vehicle, whereupon the officers started a chase. During the pursuit, the driver threw a large bag containing suspected contraband out of the window, according to the officers.

The driver eventually broke through a fence near North FM 563 and then fled on foot.

The driver, identified as Donnie Thompson of Anahuac, was arrested and taken into custody.

As it later turned out, the suspected contraband thrown out of the vehicle was almost 300 grams of methamphetamine.

Thompson is charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot, tampering with evidence and manufacturing and delivering narcotics (penalty group 1).
