Police identify victim in investigation into ‘suspicious death’ in New Rochelle; suspect arrested

New Rochelle police have identified the woman at the center of a suspicious death investigation they conducted over the weekend.

Investigators also said a suspect was arrested in the case.

Police said they found 30-year-old Meisha Williams dead of an apparent gunshot wound around 10:13 a.m. Saturday when they received a call about an incident at an apartment at 55 Clinton Place.

Investigators identified the suspected shooter as 28-year-old Robert Wooten.

Investigators said he was tracked down and arrested in Queens around 9 p.m. Saturday night.

Police said charges had been filed on Sunday evening.

Investigators said officers secured the scene the morning of the incident and located people with information.

Criminal investigators then took over the investigation.

A News 12 crew observed officers walking around the area Sunday afternoon.

One of them said they would return to the area from time to time to make sure people felt safe.

The News 12 team also observed a crime scene investigation vehicle entering the area.
