Jerry Jones reveals first thoughts on running back Deuce Vaughn

If you were wondering if Dallas Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn would make the team, just listen to what Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said about him.

“He will be very interesting for us,” Jones said after the last warm-up game against San Diego.

Jones called Vaughn “gadget juice and non-gadget times.”

In the first half against the Los Angeles Chargers, Vaughn rushed for 53 yards on nine carries. He was not in the second half. Apparently, the Cowboys saw everything they wanted to see.

Vaughn, who ran for 87 yards in two preseason games, is now averaging a whopping 6.2 yards per run.

In his first game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Vaughn led the Cowboys' ground attack with 36 rushing yards. His average was 6.8 yards per carry.

Not bad for a guy with a hamstring problem who wasn't supposed to play. He ran through defenders and broke every first tackle on every run.

“It was the first time I'd ever dealt with a soft tissue injury,” Vaughn told DallasCowboys.com. “It was a way for me to recover from it. It was tough. It was very tough. I was able to pick myself up, get healthy, be patient and come out here and play my brand of football.”

Vaughn said he was willing to do whatever was asked of him.

“I've always been a guy that will do whatever a program or organization asks of me,” Vaughn said. “I'm going to put my full focus and work hard. Whatever I have to do to give my team a chance to win, I'm going to do it.”

Right now, Vaughn is just trying to avoid the Grim Reaper.

“I feel like I've done everything I could in terms of hard work and preparation. I'm doing everything I can to do my best. It's in God's hands. In the next few days I'm going to be with my family and be thankful.”
