Chicago police officer allegedly hit another police officer

CHICAGO (CBS) — In a disturbing allegation from Chicago's 7th Police Precinct, one police officer is accused of beating another. Sources told CBS News Chicago that the two had a romantic relationship.

According to sources, a Chicago police officer named Francisco Galvan, 30, was waiting for his girlfriend, who is also a police officer and was on duty at the time, in a parking lot just outside the Seventh Precinct when he attacked her, prompting up to seven police officers to intervene and detain the man.

The incident occurred late Thursday evening.

According to a police report filed in the case, the victim, whose identity CBS News Chicago is not releasing, was sitting in his patrol car when Galvan opened the door, pulled her out, pushed her to the sidewalk and attacked her.

Other officers who intervened and detained him later noticed the odor of alcohol coming from Galvan, the police report states. Several empty alcohol cans were also found in the pickup truck that the off-duty officer drove to the Seventh Precinct.

Galvan was later taken in for questioning. He appeared to be drunk, fell into a deep sleep and later vomited, the police report said.

The victim in the case admitted that the two were in a relationship and did not want to press charges.

The motive for the attack remains unclear.

Galvan is charged with domestic violence and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also charged with transporting and carrying an open container of alcohol.

He is due to appear in court again on September 13.
