Xavier Weaver delivers his final argument for a place in the squad after defeat against the Broncos

The Arizona Cardinals added another loss to their preseason record on Sunday, losing 38-12 to the Denver Broncos. As with any preseason game, the final result is very meaningless in the grand scheme of things. But that doesn't mean the final exhibition game of the year didn't carry even more weight for those still fighting for a roster spot before cutdown day on Tuesday.

Among the players who entered the game looking to add a little extra to their resume was undrafted rookie wide receiver Xavier Weaver.

Weaver had a strong training camp with some highlights as a wide receiver and returner, and he scored another goal in the first half of Sunday's game.

The undrafted rookie provided some much-needed momentum to a stagnant offense by catching a 43-yard pass from second-year pro Clayton Tune, and then catching another 13-yard pass three plays later.

Weaver's actions during the drive put Arizona in excellent field position to score, but a fumble by Tony Jones Jr. ended the series for the Cardinals.

When the dust settled from Sunday's game, Weaver topped the Cardinals' receiving yards list with 56 yards. He caught two of four passes targeted. In addition to his offensive output, Weaver recorded four returns. He averaged eight yards per punt (two) and 27.5 yards per kick (two).

At the start of the week, Weaver was already on the verge of being eliminated given the talent ahead of him.

But with Zay Jones suspended for the first five games of the season, Weaver has an even better chance of claiming one of the remaining spots in the rankings. His biggest competition ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline is veteran Chris Moore and rookie Tejhaun Palmer.

Cameron Thomas stacks

Cameron Thomas ended a strong preseason on a high note with his third sack in two weeks.

He added a tackle for a loss and a pair of QB hits.

In a room full of question marks for the outside linebackers, every highlight helps.

Similar to Weaver, the third-year pro began the week battling for one of the remaining spots on the room's roster.

But were his last two games enough to keep him going?

Arizona's pass rush is expected to be led by Zaven Collins and Dennis Gardeck after projected starter BJ Ojulari reportedly went down with a torn ACL.

Behind him, newcomer Xavier Thomas should be given a lot of room to maneuver after a strong training camp and good preseason preparation.

This puts Thomas in a battle with Victor Dimukeje and Jesse Luketa for possibly two spots in the room.
