Main defendant undergoes a lie detector test

New Delhi: The lie detector test of Sanjay Roy, the main accused in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College, is currently being conducted at the Presidency Jail in Kolkata where he is detained, officials said on Sunday.

Two more people will undergo the test at the CBI office in Kolkata, officials said. Four people, including former principal Sandip Ghosh, were subjected to the polygraph test on Saturday, officials said. The CBI has sought permission from the court to subject seven people, including Roy and former principal of the medical college Sandip Ghosh, to the polygraph test.

The test cannot be used as evidence during the trial, but the results will give the agency a direction for further investigation. A team of polygraph specialists flown to Kolkata from Delhi's Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is conducting the tests, sources said. Roy was arrested by Kolkata police on August 10, a day after the 31-year-old medic's body was found in the medical college's seminar hall. CCTV footage and a Bluetooth device found near the medic's body led to the arrest of Roy, who was allegedly seen entering the college's seminar hall around 4 am, where the body was found.

CBI sleuths on Sunday searched the premises of former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh, former MSVP Sanjay Vashisth and 13 others in and around Kolkata in connection with their investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the institute, officials said.

The CBI's Anti-Corruption Unit also searched the homes and offices of persons entrusted with the supply of materials for the treatment and care of patients.

Another team of CBI officials also conducted searches in the former principal's office at the hospital and also visited the canteen in the school premises. They asked the current principal Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay to come to the hospital in the morning and accompany them in their searches at the medical facility.
